3 Tips for A Healthier Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner and I have literally done NOTHING to prepare. I will be honest, out of all the holidays, Halloween is my absolute least favorite. I won't go into the why's, just know that I don't love it. However, I do recognize that for many, this holiday is one of the favorites so I am here to share with you some tips on how you can still enjoy it, but make it a holiday that's not so....unhealthy.

Tip 1: Don't hand out candy!

Between the class parties, family gatherings, friend parties and more, there's plenty of treats that will be passed out during this holiday time. Instead of handing out candy and contributing to the sugar overload, consider buying small toys, tattoos, stickers, mini water bottles, and my personal favorite, glow-in-the-dark sticks instead to those cute trick-or-treaters. Not only are you helping the kids with reducing the amount of sugar they're getting, but you're also helping yourself out by not having those sugary sweets in your home to temp yourself. (You can't tell me you don't grab from your own stash!)

Tip 2: Load up on a nutritious dinner before heading out!

Before going trick-or-treating, feed your family a well balanced dinner full of vegetables, good quality protein (pepperoni on pizza doesn't count), and healthy fats that will help stabilize their blood sugar AND hopefully fill their tummies up enough to prevent them from going crazy with eating all the candy! This blood sugar stabilizing technique will help prevent middle of the night waking's, mood swings, and even upset stomachs in the morning.

Tip 3: Watch your sugar!

Knowing full well that you and your kids are about to be surrounded by sugar all day long on Halloween, be mindful of what you're eating and save those precious sugary treats for the evening. Our bodies immune systems become drastically weakened once we've consumed more than 24 grams of sugar (that's roughly 2 Tablespoons). Without realizing it, most of us easily consume that much just half way through breakfast! YIKES! Any more than 24 grams essentially shuts our immune system down anywhere from 5-12 hours after eaten, giving viruses a prime opportunity to attack and take our body as it's host. It's no wonder why so many of us end up sick shortly after a holiday!

Try these simple tips out on Halloween and see if you notice a difference in how you and your family feel!

Happy Halloween!

Love,

Danielle

P.S.

If you find yourself sick with a cold, try out Morning Miracle's drink mix!

It's full of Vitamin C and uses Butterbur Root and Apple Cider Vinegar to help reduce your typical cold symptoms of sneezing, runny noses, sore throat, and congestion! It's a must have in our family's supplement cabinet for this time of year!
